4K and 3D imaging by Sony at EAU18
See the latest innovations from Sony in 4K and 3D surgical imaging workflow at Europe’s biggest urology congress, taking place in Copenhagen from 17-19 March.
Basingstoke, 12th March 2018 - Join Sony in Copenhagen from 17-19 March at Europe’s largest display of technological and pharmaceutical industry developments related to urology. This year at EAU18 we’re showcasing our latest innovations in surgical imaging – and demonstrating how we can partner with endoscopic camera manufacturers to develop market-leading clinical imaging solutions for their customers.
We’re illustrating how the extra resolution of 4K helps surgeons visualise fine structural details that Full HD can’t distinguish. And we’re showing how imaging in 3D offers improved depth perception, allowing surgeons to operate with greater accuracy and confidence.
In a demonstration of Sony innovation, we’re showing how Virtual Reality (VR) could be used as powerful new tool to support surgical training and education for students and clinical staff.
Here’s a round-up of Sony’s medical workflow highlights on stand F38 at EAU18:
3D imaging surgical workflow, including 4K 3D
Our 4K 3D monitors, LMD-X310MT and LMD-X550MT, boost viewing resolution for surgeons without the need to upgrade existing Full HD 3D systems. The monitor’s dual Full HD input doubles vertical resolution compared with conventional Full HD 3D screens, achieving a more realistic visualisation of complex surgical procedures.
The HVO-3300MT 3D medical video recorder integrates seamlessly into end-to-end hospital workflows. It now supports DICOM Modality Worklist, and is capable of streaming live 2D or 3D video from the operating room to lecture theatres, offices and consulting rooms for surgical education and training.
4K imaging surgical workflow
Displaying four times the detail of Full HD with a native 4K source, our LMD-X550MD and LMD-X310MD surgical monitors feature a slim, space-saving chassis, plus a narrow bezel to maximise the monitor's screen area. Unique image interpolation and upscaling gives a crisp, natural 4K view of lower resolution (HD/SD) source images without blurring or 'jaggies'. The HVO-4000MT 4K video and still image recorder offers 2D and 3D recording on choice of local media (HDD, Blu-Ray, DVD, USB) as well as networked storage. Video can be captured at native 4K resolution or downscaled as Full HD.
Ideal for documenting surgical images captured in 4K, the UP-DR80MD is the world's smallest medical grade A4 dye sublimation printer that delivers superior image quality in 4K resolution.
We’re also presenting a complete Full HD surgical imaging workflow solution, comprising LMD-2760/65MD, LMD-2435MD and LMD-2735MD 2D monitors that combine excellent image clarity with ergonomic design and intuitive operation. They’re complemented by the compact, easy-to-use HVO‑500MD/SUR medical recorder that’s optimised for surgical applications.
VR enhances surgical training and education
Virtual Reality (VR) offers the exciting potential to enhance the quality of medical training and education. In a demonstration of Sony innovation, we’re showing a Virtual Reality (VR) environment with our NUCLeUS video-over-IP platform as the central recording base. Imaging sources are combined with other data, creating an immersive virtualisation that allows other surgeons and clinical experts to ‘participate’ remotely in surgical interventions while reducing infection risks in the operating room.
