BCE and Sony inaugurate the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel's (INA) first 4K studio

The Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA), in collaboration with BCE and Sony, is building its first 4K studio to boost its UHD production and train future audiovisual talent

 

Weybridge, UK - Paris, France 24 April 2025: Sony and BCE announce the inauguration of "Studio 204", the first 4K studio at the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA). Created in 1975, INA is a public audiovisual and digital company that collects, preserves and transmits France's television, radio and web heritage. Faced with rapid changes in the audiovisual ecosystem, the company has embarked on an ambitious modernisation project to create a 4K studio.

For this project, the INA relied on BCE, a strategic technology partner renowned for its expertise in the media and broadcasting sector. Thanks to its proven expertise and several previous projects with Sony, BCE designed and implemented a tailor-made solution perfectly suited to the INA's needs, ensuring seamless integration of the equipment and overall support for the project.

A fruitful technical collaboration

This new state-of-the-art equipment illustrates INA's commitment technological innovation and the transmission of know-how. Sony equipment was chosen for its ease use, modularity and popularity with the many freelancers already trained. These features allow rapid adaptation to different production requirements, without the need for complex rewiring or reconfiguration. The studio can easily switch from 4K to HD production, adapting to the specific needs of each project.

Studio 204 is equipped with:

The new HXC-FZ90 4K cameras which stands out for its flexibility and 4K option. Designed to deliver exceptional image quality, they be easily integrated into a variety of environments. In the studio, they offer advanced features such as Dynamic Focus and Focus Assist, making it easy to capture sharp images. The TLCS (Total Level Control System) automatically adjusts exposure parameters, and the TRUNK network ensures fast, fluid remote control, making it easy to set up complex configurations and work without a dedicated operator.

The XVS-G1 4K switcher is designed to meet the requirements of small and medium-sized facilities, from studios to mobile units.
The mixer is packed with creative features such an integrated clip player, 3D DME effects and logo keys, enabling enhanced production and smooth workflows. Thanks to a new web-based menu, the XVS-G1 can be easily controlled via PC or tablet, for simplified production management.

 

A project for the future

This new UHD studio, an innovation at the INA, offers state-of-the-art technical conditions for all types of audiovisual production, from live recordings to content for social networks and a variety of programmes. As well as boosting INA's UHD production capacity, this 4K studio offers INA students and apprentices a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge equipment, helping to pass on know-how and prepare tomorrow's audiovisual talent.
