Sony launches IP Live Production Studio at DMPCE, Pinewood Studios

Basingstoke – 17th June 2016: Sony has today launched a dedicated IP Live Studio as part of its Digital Motion Picture Centre Europe (DMPCE) at Pinewood Film Studios. The facility opening marks Sony’s commitment to developing IP solutions ready today, open for tomorrow. The brand new IP Studio will demonstrate the full IP ecosystem, acting as a training centre and test bed for third party interoperability. Broadcasters and production companies have long lacked the opportunity to get hands-on with a test IP Live production system and Sony is now able to provide a landmark educational resource and practical tool to aid literacy and excellence in IP. The studio will demonstrate what the industry can achieve, showcasing the scalability and benefits of Sony's Networked Media Interface, which delivers low latency and noise-free switching of HD and 4K video, audio and metadata via standard network infrastructures. It will also support IP initiatives as a hardware tool and establish itself as a prime training ground for professionals, in line with the strong heritage already established by Sony at Pinewood Studios. The IP Live Studio will serve as a ‘playground’ for partners that are part of the IP Live Alliance, allowing them to interface their own equipment with the Sony system. With the range of IP-compatible software and kit expanding across the industry, the DMPCE’s platform will allow partners to ensure their customers can interact with different workflows thanks to the help of Sony’s technology. Sony has already established a leading list of partners, including 50 members of the IP Live Alliance, who will be able to use the studio to go beyond a regular proof of concept by demonstrating their products’ interoperability and functionality in a live environment.

Basingstoke, 17th June 2016- Sony has today announced the launch of its latest dual projection system that puts industry leading picture quality within reach of cost-conscious theatre owners. SRX-R510DS combines two SRX-R510 projectors to deliver a total brightness of 18,000 lumens – plenty for smaller independent cinemas and boutique screens looking to impress their patrons with a premium entertainment experience. With the addition of the SRX-R510DS, Sony now offers a complete range of DCI compliant 4K projection solutions for every size of cinema. The new system joins the SRX-R515DS dual 4K system for large format screens that was announced at CinemaCon last year. “We’re seeing phenomenal interest from the market in our high-brightness dual projection systems that offer the unsurpassed clarity of Sony 4K – without the price penalty and high running costs of still unproven laser products from other vendors”, notes David McIntosh, Vice President, Sony Digital Cinema 4K Solutions for Europe and the Americas. “Fitting neatly into the line-up between our R515P and R515DS systems, this new dual projection solution hits a sweet spot for any cinema with big ambitions for brightness and picture quality.” Customers for our existing SRX-R515DS include Alamo Drafthouse Cinema – ‘the world’s coolest movie theatre’ – and Latin America operator Cine Center that’s recently installed four systems in Bolivia. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in demand for original and historic audiovisual content in the media and broadcasting industry and new applications with the growth of mobile and broadband for video sharing and e-learning. Many new ways of engaging audiences with historical content have merged recently using crowd engagement like around the centenary of the First World War and many other new ways of leveraging historical content. While these major changes are changing the way information and resources are produced, seen and managed, audiovisual heritage is under more threat today than ever. Audiovisual archives and tapes and films deteriorate unavoidably with time, while playback equipment tends to disappear; some historic manufacturers no longer produce it and skills in this area become scarce. Therefore, UNESCO had good reason to declare 27 October the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, to serve as a global reminder of the need to safeguard this aspect of our collective memory. To respond to these challenges, in June 2016 the Memnon Archiving Services (a member of the Sony group) will open its new headquarters with a new production site in Evere, Brussels. Acquired by Sony on 1 July 2015, the Brussels-based company Memnon Archiving Services has become a world leader in the sector, offering digitalisation services both via its facilities in Brussels and the United States (at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana) and as managed services on various client sites, bringing its operations to the customer and passing on its knowledge and expertise to them. Memnon currently exports its services to the United States and the Middle East, but is also exploring new markets such as Latin America, Africa and Asia. Having been the first tenant of the renovated Flagey building, Memnon has decided to leave Flagey in Ixelles and transfer to a new and completely renovated space in Rue du Four à Briques in Evere. The new location is perfect for Memnon to further industrialise the processes for large scale digitalisation of audiovisual archives, in order to meet the needs and quality expectations of organisations that hold precious archives and to meet the company’s growth targets for the coming years. The acquisition by Sony means that Memnon is already benefitting from Sony's industrial process and technological expertise. Memnon will move all its operations to its new 1800-m2 headquarters, taking the operations for audiovisual archive processing to a new level. Sony’s new solutions utilise cutting-edge image capture technology, including state-of-the-art 4K, providing crystal clear images in any environment. Building on its long history of innovation and reputation as a technology leader in the IP camera market, Sony will demonstrate the high resolution and sensitivity capabilities of its latest 4K range, including the recently announced SNC-VB770 low light camera. This year, the Sony stand at IFSEC will be presented in a series of city themed application environments: Transportation solutions With four times the resolution of Full HD, 4K offers users accurate and detailed images for facial recognition and licence plate reading, as well as low-light technology for increased situation awareness providing improved efficiency, safety and security. New scalable system boasts 99% Black Surface Area for high-contrast, high-resolution and high-impact visuals

Basingstoke – May 19th, 2016- Ahead of InfoComm 2016, Sony has today announced the launch of its CLEDIS™ display technology, a new large-scale canvas solution that builds on Sony’s self-emitting display capabilities, but with ultrafine LEDs as the light source, to deliver a single high-resolution image at an unprecedented scale. The solution has been designed to redefine the landscape for large-scale display and visual entertainment by delivering a totally new visual experience not possible today with even the highest-end conventional LED array. “Our new technology is a giant new type of canvas for unprecedented flexibility and creativity in high-end visual simulation and entertainment,” said Damien Weissenburger, Business Head of Corporate & Education Solutions, Sony Professional Solutions Europe. “Compared to other solutions currently available for large-scale display it’s a leap forward in depth, contrast, wide viewing angle, colour, resolution – and pure visual impact.” The new canvas technology is designed for a range of commercial applications where intricately detailed video displays and realistic simulation is required on a large scale. Applications range from industrial product design and manufacturing for automotive, through to displays in theme parks, museums, high-traffic lobbies and showrooms, as well as boardrooms and broadcast studios. CLEDIS™ (Crystal LED Integrated Structure) scales effortlessly to match the largest creative ambitions. The groundbreaking borderless design allows multiple tiles to be seamlessly aligned so no visible gaps can be seen by the naked eye. The result is an immersive, true to reality picture with a near 180 degree viewing angle, creating an image that is as large as your imagination can handle. Redefining high-end visual display technology The CLEDIS self-emitting display technology uses R (red), G (green), and B (blue) ultrafine LEDs mounted on the display surface, with each pixel emitting light independently. Each pixel is composed of one separate R, G and B ultrafine LED, with the light source only 0.003 mm2 in size. The remaining surface area is more than 99% black. Combined with the technology’s isotropic luminescence, which delivers the same colour reproduction and brightness for viewers at any angle, the high black-to-surface ratio delivers a high contrast ratio in both light and dark viewing environments. The surface-mounted light source also dramatically improves the efficiency of light used. The display is able to achieve a viewing angle of nearly 180 degrees, with corner-to-corner image uniformity in terms of brightness and colour, even on a large screen. And has a brightness of 1000 cd/m2 (1000 nits), producing imagery with 10-bit colour depth and a wide colour gamut (approximately 140% of sRGB).
