Cinéma Galaxy refurbishment focuses on Sony 4K
CinemaNext equips Cognac exhibitor with high-contrast 4K projection systems in all six screens
France, 11th October: Sony Digital Cinema is supplying high-contrast SRX-R500 Series 4K projection systems to Cinéma Galaxy in Cognac.
Opening early in 2020, the refurbished theatre will exclusively feature Sony 4K projectors in all six screens, offering patrons spectacular images with four times the detail of lower-resolution 2K projectors.
Cinéma Galaxy’s two largest auditoriums are to be equipped with high-brightness dual projection systems, each using a matched SRX-R500 series projector pair to deliver reference light levels for 2D and 3D presentations with true 4K resolution and impressive 8,000:1 contrast ratio. They’re complemented by compact, energy-eficient SRX-R515P (15,000 lumen) and SRX‑R510P (9,000 lumen) systems in Cinéma Galaxy’s four smaller screens.
The Sony projectors are being provided by cinema technology specialist CinemaNext, with installation taking place during the theatre’s extensive refurbishment at the end of this year.

Offering an impressive 8,000:1 contrast ratio, Sony’s SRX-R500 Series cinema projectors feature a highly efficient, long-lasting High Pressure Mercury (HPM) lamp array that reduces maintenance requirements compared with conventional Xenon projection lamps. All DCI-compliant projection systems can be easily adapted for smooth, easy-on-the-eye 3D presentation.
