Karolinska University Hospital deploys Sony’s NUCLeUS in 31 Operating Rooms
Leading Swedish teaching hospital enhances surgical imaging workflow with NUCLeUS video-over-IP platform.
May 2018 - Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden is deploying Sony’s NUCLeUS as their standard video-over-IP platform. By selecting this state of the art platform, Karolinska University Hospital is able to manage video based workflows inside the operating rooms and also outside connection to auditoriums and lecture rooms, as well as remote advisory through telestration.
31 NUCLeUS systems – the largest one-off deployment by a European healthcare provider – are being installed by Nordic systems integrator Vingmed in a newly-constructed surgical centre on the hospital’s site in Stockholm, Huddinge. Sony is also supplying a range of other equipment to Karolinska University.
Controlled by an intuitive touchscreen, the NUCLeUS system in each operating room allows surgical staff to capture, record and share live video, still images and other digital content with colleagues, teaching staff and students across the hospital campus.
Sweden’s second largest hospital system, Karolinska University Hospital, is one of Europe’s premier health facilities. It offers 1,340 beds and receives 1.58 million patient visits per year while employing over 15,800 staff across two sites in Huddinge and Solna.
Karolinska University hospital: “We selected local integration specialist Vingmed, as the NUCLeUS offering from Sony provided the best fit for our needs. We’re also excited to be working with a company like Sony, whose proven focus on innovation is a great fit with our own future plans.”
“NUCLeUS transforms surgical workflow efficiency in today’s networked hospital environment,” says Kennet Agnebo from Sony Professional Solutions Europe. “We are delighted to be working closely with professionals at Karolinska University Hospital, which is one of the world leading institutes, and also our Partner Vingmed, in this largest-ever installation of NUCLeUS by a European customer.”
Manage, store and share video-rich content across hospital networks
NUCLeUS from Sony is the open, scalable and vendor-neutral video-over-IP platform that transforms surgical workflow efficiency in today’s networked hospital environment.
Developed in consultation with leading surgeons, NUCLeUS guides clinical staff through the planning, recording and sharing of video images and other patient-related data in the Operating Room, across the hospital campus and beyond.
Under control of the surgeon or nursing staff, NUCLeUS can instantly route live images from any source to screens in the operating room or elsewhere on the hospital campus. Multiple feeds from endoscopes, surgical microscopes, room cameras and other sources can be recorded simultaneously for post-operative review and training purposes. Captured content can also be associated with other patient records and stored centrally for secure access from anywhere over hospital-wide IP networks.
The system’s open architecture and vendor neutral approach also allows the integration of new applications to enhance the power and flexibility of NUCLeUS in the future.
