LABA Florence invests in the future with Sony: BURANO arrives in film classes
Milan, 29th May 2025 - LABA - Libera Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze - for years a reference point for training in the visual arts and design has introduced the use of Sony's BURANO professional camera in its teaching workshops. A strategic choice aimed at offering students state-of-the-art tools in line with international film industry standards.
BURANO, the latest generation of the CineAlta range, is a compact full-frame camera for high mobility, designed to combine cinematic quality, light weight and versatility. Extraordinarily intuitive, it is a perfect mix for the educational and creative needs of LABA students and for all those who need to shoot solo, such as single cameramen, or small crews.
"We are excited to announce the launch of our new Three-year BA in Directing and Videomaking. We have invested in high-level professional equipment for this new course, to offer our students state-of-the-art tools and a complete educational experience." comments Veronica Citi, Lecturer in Digital Video - Direction and Audiovisual Documentation Techniques, LABA. "As our flagship camera, along with the various mirrorless and video camera models from Sony, we chose the BURANO, because in addition to being loyal to Sony for so many years, we found many aspects of interest in this new model," concludes Citi.
Indeed, the BURANO is a great advantage for an academy like LABA that is about to welcome students interested in Directing and Videomaking at a professional level, because it offers excellent image quality. BURANO is a camera that combines image quality, ergonomics and ease of use, making it perfect even for those in training. In fact, students are currently filming a documentary on Federico Fellini, the premiere of which will take place in Prague on 12 June 2025.
"BURANO is a new concept in film cameras. Lighter and even more compact than other professional high-definition digital cameras, it is therefore more technically advanced and proves to be an ideal choice for a wide range of projects, with or without set design, from advertising productions to documentaries to nature shots." says Sebastian Leske, Head of Business Development, Cinema Line, Sony Europe. "Contemporary cinema is about stories, but it is also about technology. Offering students direct access to a camera like the Burano means preparing them for a market that demands competence, flexibility and vision."
This initiative is part of a broader process of technological upgrading at the institute, which is always keen to offer a didactic approach in step with the evolution of audiovisual language.
