Nevion extends VideoIPath cloud orchestration capabilities with Sony’s M2L-X cloud switcher integration
Enhancement includes new start-stop functionality
Oslo, Norway - Weybridge, UK, 20 March, 2025 – Nevion, a Sony Group Company, announced today the latest extensions to the cloud orchestration capabilities of its flagship media orchestration platform VideoIPath. Chief amongst these new capabilities is ability to start and stop instances in the cloud automatically based on provisioned connections, thereby reducing operational costs. This critical capability has been implemented in the new integration with Sony’s cloud-based live production switcher, M2L-X. Separately, the cloud-native version of VideoIpath has passed AWS’s FTR (Foundational Technical Review) and is certified as AWS Partner Qualified Software.
Nevion VideoIPath is a key component of Sony’s Networked Live offering and is widely deployed by broadcasters and telecom service providers throughout the world in applications as diverse as contribution, remote production, facilities, OB trucks and GCCG (ground-to-cloud-cloud-to-ground). VideoIPath is also an open system that allows it to be integrated into existing environments, with interfaces to any device and equipment, and support for familiar control surfaces.
In recent years, a whole host of cloud-related capabilities have been added to Nevion VideoIPath, including integrations with cloud-based 3rd party products, such as master control, playout, multi-viewers, gateways, processing and other services. This allows customers to use VideoIPath for orchestration of cloud-based virtualized production and playout workflows, alone or in combination with resources on the ground.
Now VideoIPath has been integrated with M2L-X. Also part of Networked Live, the cloud-based live production switcher allows producers to perform video switching and audio mixing, graphics and captions – remotely from any location over the network with easy setup and minimal deployment time. The new integration means that VideoIPath can now orchestrate signals from the ground into the cloud, and across the cloud to an M2L-X instance. VideoIPath can also stop M2L-X when it’s not needed and start it when it is – ensuring it is only consuming as many cloud resources as is required.
This new start/stop functionality comes on top of a previously announced spin-up and spin-down capability. While the latter provides the optimum use of cloud resources, it may not always be practical for more complex and intensive processes, such as a cloud switcher or a multiviewer. Starting and stopping such instances is typically quicker and more effective.
Jan Helgesen, Head of Product and Solutions at Nevion explains: “Our vision it to make hybrid production as easy and transparent as possible to production staff. This means being able to manage resources and media flows both on the ground and in the cloud in a seamless way. We are continuing to add functionality to our flagship media orchestration platform VideoIPath to achieve this.”
The new VideoIPath cloud orchestration capabilities in combination with M2L-X will be on show at the NAB Show (Las Vegas, 6-9 April, 2025), in the Networked Live area of Sony’s booth N439.
