New Sony XVS-G1 switcher to power AMP Visual TV productions
The French production company is among the many choosing the compact and reliable XVS-G1 switcher for its fly-away production units
Basingstoke, UK, January 18th, 2022: AMP Visual TV, the well-known French live production company, has selected Sony’s latest switcher the XVS-G1 to power its offer of fly-away based production units around France.
The XVS-G1, launched in spring last year, follows in the footsteps of Sony’s well established XVS switcher line up. Designed for live production needs, such as sports, news, events as well as entertainment programs, the XVS-G1 system is a perfect fit for the small to mid-size studio, outside broadcast vehicles, and fly-away production units. Powerfully flexible in production terms, the XVS-G1 is a highly capable switcher not only in HD but also in UHD. This makes the XVS-G1 stand above its small switcher competitors where so often UHD reduces creative capacity for the operator. Enabling this UHD capability is one of the switcher’s distinguishing features. Its hybrid structure pulls together a central processing unit (CPU), a graphics processing unit (GPU), and a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This combination delivers both highest performance and reliability, with no compromise on visual processing enhancements, nor any latency while maintaining a high capacity in both HD and UHD formats.
Its specifications and versatility fit the requirements for AMP Visual TV as it sought to upgrade its equipment after the pandemic, in the light of a growing need for compact, streamlined production kits, to cater for the production of new or more traditional forms of live content.
"We have been using Sony’s switchers as part of our operations for a long time, because of their reliability and scalability. When we wanted to upgrade our light operations to fit the increased demands for compact and remote productions, the new XVS-G1 seemed a natural choice, as it fit right into our existing fleet, as well as being a versatile and future proof system with its UHD capability" comments Francois Valadoux, Technical Director at AMP Visual TV.
Norbert Paquet, Head of Live Production Solutions at Sony Professional Solutions Europe, adds:
“We’ve been working together with AMP Visual TV for many years now and are always invested in and interested to see where their development projects are leading. Switchers, in all of their forms, remain the centerpiece of any production, especially in live environments. They need to be both familiar for operators and innovative to introduce new ways of working, leveraging the latest technologies. And, in essence that’s what our XVS-G1 delivers”
