Sony and Reuters Demonstrate World-first* Near-live Newsroom Workflow to Protect Content Authenticity

8th September 2026, Weybridge UK: As news organisations face a growing need to verify the origin and integrity of visual content, Sony has joined forces with Reuters to demonstrate the world's first near-live newsroom workflow to preserve content authenticity, combining C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) and TAMS (Time-Addressable Media Store) at IBC 2026.

Building on last year's milestone — when Sony introduced the world's first camcorder PXW-Z300, capable of recording C2PA metadata directly into video files — the two companies have developed an end-to-end workflow that preserves content authenticity from capture through to distribution.

Sony's contribution ensures that C2PA information is captured and recorded at the point of video being shot and preserved during near-live file transfer. This data is then passed to a TAMS store built to specification V8.2, which defines how to handle fragmented MP4 segments while preserving the embedded C2PA information.

Reuters brings its industry-leading editorial and distribution capabilities to the workflow, retrieving the near-live file segments together with their C2PA data from TAMS for editing and packaging in compatible platforms, including Media Backbone Hive.

The key advantage of this joint approach lies in the combination of near-live file transfer and fully integrated authenticity workflow. C2PA information is captured and continuously transferred from the point of recording, establishing a trusted chain of authenticity flows editing and packaging into distribution. Watermarking ensures recovery of the original C2PA information even if metadata is stripped.

Joe Delshadian, the Director of Content Distribution at Reuters says: “

"Open standards like C2PA are essential, but they only work if the information survives the journey from camera to client. Watermarking gives us a way to recover that provenance even if metadata is stripped along the way. Together with Sony and our editing partners at Hive, we're demonstrating a genuinely end-to-end chain of authenticity and giving our clients real confidence that what they're seeing is authentic Reuters content."

Ryoichi Sakuragi, Head of News Solution Business at Sony Corporation says: “For authenticity technologies to make a meaningful impact in journalism, they must work within real newsroom operations, not just at the point of capture. Together with Reuters, we have demonstrated a workflow where authenticity information can be preserved and carried through near-live file transfer and production processes. This represents a significant milestone toward bringing trusted content workflows into day-to-day news gathering and distribution.”

Together, Sony and Reuters believe this marks a significant step towards the end-to-end preservation of C2PA metadata throughout the news workflow, supporting journalists and news organisations worldwide verify the authenticity and provenance of visual content from capture through to distribution.

This workflow will be exclusively exhibited during IBC (11–14 September) at the Amsterdam RAI, at the Sony booth (Hall 13) and Reuters booth (Hall 5).
