tpc selects Sony’s brand new HDC-P50 for its News and Sports production
Switzerland’s leading multimedia service provider opts for Sony’s latest generation of live production systems cameras, trusting in quality and innovation.
IBC, 17th September 2018: Technology and production centre Switzerland ag (tpc) purchases Sony’s newest generation of live production system cameras for its news and sports production centre. The multimedia market leader and technical service provider for radio and TV in Switzerland has purchased 13 HDC-P50 cameras and 10 PXW-Z450 cameras from Sony for installation in its new state of the art, full IP ST2110 studios in Zurich.
Just launched at IBC, 2018, the HDC-P50 is a compact, lightweight POV camera, boasting the world’s first 2/3 inch 4K global shutter three CMOS sensor system, delivering a wider dynamic range. As a result, the camera offers stunning, high-quality images for 4K/HD HDR live productions, as well as giving high mobility for efficient operations. tpc will be one of the first in Europe to put the camera through its paces.
“The HDC-P50 fits seamlessly into our existing workflows, whilst able to deliver stunning 4K. It’s compact design ensures easy integration into our new state of the art studios for HD and 4K content production”, says Andreas Lattmann, Chief Technical Officer at tpc.
“tpc has a long and trusted relationship with Sony. Already working with the HDC-4300, we knew the latest HDC-P50 would ensure full backward compatibility with previous generations of cameras, whilst bringing new capabilities, such as IP transmission technology, SMPTE ST2110, 4K and HDR, offering us the latest tools for content creation with a more efficient infrastructure” ends Lattmann.
With SRG SSR already committed to Media Backbone Hive for their news and sports production operations across all its broadcasting centers in Switzerland, the purchase of these new cameras will work seamlessly to enhance their capabilities to meet the needs of audiences in today’s fast paced digital landscape. With the ability to quickly ingest, share, edit and publish any content to any platform Media Backbone Hive offers tpc the perfect platform to deploy an ‘always on’ journalism model, where there is appetite for 24/7 news across multiple platforms and formats. Their choice of the PXW-Z450 will also provide them a robust, high performance acquisition tool for 4K and HD news and field-based production.
Furthermore, using Sony’s XDCAM Air ENG solution, which allows high quality streams to be sent directly from Sony XDCAM cameras, such as the PXW-Z450, over Wifi and LTE, tpc can achieve greater speed and flexibility, giving their journalists the ability to deliver more from the field and not be tied to the newsroom.
“Sony has been delivering for tpc for many years and we’re delighted they’ve invested in our newest generation of live production system cameras to enhance their operations”, says Rainer Lüthy, Key Account Manager at Sony Professional Solutions Europe.
“Our goal is always to provide our customers with the latest technology standards, like 4K and HDR productions over IP, to enable them to produce the best possible broadcasts now and in the future.”
