VENICE goes to Berlin: Sony showcases innovation in cinematography

Visit the CineAlta Lounge while you’re visiting the Berlin International Film Festival - and see the full range of creative tools from Sony for movie-makers, including the VENICE Digital Motion Picture Camera System with new Full-Frame capture capability.

Berlin, 6th February 2018 -  Whilst you are in Berlin during this year’s 68th Berlin International Film Festival – visit ​ us ​ at our Sony Store and experience a world of exciting creative possibilities for cinematographers, DoPs, producers and all filmmakers.

Located at Potsdamer Strasse 4, just five minute’s walk from the festival venue. Sony will be welcoming Berlinale visitors in their CineAlta Lounge from 16-21 February (opening hours 13.00-19.00; closed 18 Feb, open 14.00-16.00 only on 19 Feb). There’s no need to book in advance – drop in whenever you wish.

Innovation for film-makers

Sony will be showcasing VENICE, their 36x24mm Digital Motion Picture Camera System that begins shipping early February. Now offering Full-Frame capture capability, the next generation of Sony’s acclaimed CineAlta system realises truly filmic images with wide dynamic range and rich colour reproduction for natural skin tones and expressive dark areas. Designed in close collaboration with the creative community, VENICE addresses the exacting requirements of the most ambitious filmmakers and production professionals. Alongside VENICE, Sony will also be showing their range of products and solutions for cinematographers and film-makers, including their acclaimed PMW-F55, RX0, A9 and A7S cameras and 4K HDR professional monitors.

Sony is also presenting an exciting series of seminars and workshops during the Festival. Attendance at all events is free, with no need to pre-book. Availability is on a first come first served basis - seats are limited so if you wish to attend a particular seminar, we recommend to arrive ahead of the time.

Professional seminars for everybody

Inside VENICE: CineAlta goes Full Frame with Christian Kühn - Saturday 17th February 14.00-16.00: The Hamburg-based Cinematographer will be sharing his first-hand experiences of shooting with VENICE, with a screening of full-frame footage captured with this ground-breaking camera.

CINEMATOGRAPHERS XX (CXX) – Drop in -Monday 19th February, 14.00-16.00: Get together with the professionals from CINEMATOGRAPHERS XX Germany.

VENICE and F55 in living colour: RAW and X-OCN your next level film stock, -Tuesday 20th 14:00-17:00: In cooperation with the Association of German Cinematographers (BVK): Alexander Palm (BVK) and director/ writer Peter Spans will explore in this workflow session how you will benefit of the colours you can capture with RAW/X-OCN to create your vision.

Shooting Full-Frame with VENICE and Leica Thalia lenses - Wednesday 21st 14:00-17:00: In association with CW Sonderoptic, manufacturer of Leica Cine lenses: DoP Maher Maleh will be presenting shooting techniques using Leica Thalia lenses and talk about his experience shooting full frame.
